A Guiding Coalition to Create an Organization to Advance Strategic Performance Management in State Education Agencies and Other Education Entities
The Building State Capacity and Productivity Content Center welcomes you to a guiding coalition of change agents from across the nation to champion the cause of performance management strategies in education. The coalition, consisting of State Education Department leaders and staff from the Regional Comprehensive Centers, will shape an organization of performance management experts dedicated to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of state and local education agencies so that the quality of services to students is optimized.

What is Performance Management?
“Performance management is a strategic approach to improvement in which the entire organization shares the same set of objectives” (Nafziger, 2013, p. 1).
Performance management systems enable SEAs to achieve their goals in the most productive manner. Performance management is a science with methods for operationalizing organizational purpose and goals, implementing strategies, measuring progress, making adjustments in course, and encouraging innovation. Personnel within SEAs who possess expertise in performance management will be critical to the transformation of SEAs to the ideal of an SEA of the Future.
The Performance Management Guiding Coalition is coordinated through the Building State Capacity and Productivity (BSCP) Center. BSCP is one of seven national content centers funded by the U. S. Department of Education. The Center is based on the premise that performance management systems enable SEAs to achieve their goals in the most productive manner. You have been identified as a leader in the performance management arena.
